Diffuse Extragalactic Gamma Rays and Gamma Ray Bursts

Vázquez, R. A.

Original · EN

If gamma ray bursts produce a total energy of 10⁵4 ergs and this energy is concentrated on the high energy tail of the spectrum E> 1 TeV, then they may account for the observed diffuse extragalactic gamma ray emission for energies > 100 MeV. Such an energy could be released if the GRB's are produced by the burning of the total mass of a neutron star in a phase transition which violates baryon number.
